About

1990s is a Glasgow-based indie rock trio known for their energetic and raw sound. Emerging from the remnants of the band the Yummy Fur, the group includes Jackie McKeown (guitar, vocals), Jamie McMorrow (bass), and Michael McGaughrin (drums). Following McMorrow's departure, Dino Bardot took over bass duties. Their music, often categorized within the realms of British and Scottish indie rock, captures the spirited essence of their vibrant origins. Signed by Rough Trade after only a few performances, 1990s quickly gained attention with their debut album Cookies, produced by Bernard Butler of Suede fame.

How to Sound Like 1990s

The sound of 1990s is characterized by gritty guitar riffs and driving rhythms, creating a lively and infectious rock atmosphere. Their music is a blend of garage rock vibrancy and indie pop sensibility, with a focus on catchy hooks and straightforward arrangements. The use of a Fender Jazzmaster by Dino Bardot lends a distinctive, jangly edge to their guitar work, enhanced by the warm tones of a Laney Lionheart L20T-120 20 Watt 1x12" Combo Amp. To add texture and a punchy overdrive, pedals like the Wampler Tumnus V1 and Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive are utilized, ensuring their sound remains both vibrant and dynamic. The drumming is tight and propulsive, providing a solid backbone for their spirited performances.
