About
Young Knives is an English indie rock band known for their energetic blend of dance-punk, new rave, and Oxford indie rock. Hailing from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, the group is composed of brothers Henry Dartnall (vocals, guitar) and Thomas "The House of Lords" Dartnall (bass, vocals), along with Oliver Askew (drums). Young Knives first captured attention with their sharp, angular sound and witty, observational lyrics, setting them apart in the vibrant British indie scene.
How to Sound Like Young Knives
Young Knives' sound is defined by its raw, dynamic energy, characterized by jagged guitar riffs and driving bass lines. Henry Dartnall often employs a Fender Telecaster combined with a Mesa/Boogie Mark III Amplifier to produce a punchy, aggressive tone that cuts through the mix. The use of the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man adds a touch of analog delay and modulation, enriching their sound with a subtle, psychedelic edge. Thomas Dartnall’s pulsating bass lines, delivered through instruments like the Burns Bison Bass, create a solid rhythmic foundation that anchors their tracks. The rhythmic drive is further emphasized by Oliver Askew's precise, propulsive drumming, which injects a raw, kinetic energy into their music.
