About
Ashra is a pioneering German musical group that emerged from the depths of the Krautrock scene, evolving from the influential Ash Ra Tempel. Founded by the visionary Manuel Göttsching, Ashra began as a solo project focusing on electronic music and eventually expanded to include members Lutz Ulbrich (guitar) and Harald Grosskopf (drums). Known for their innovative blend of space rock, ambient, and New Age genres, Ashra's sound is a harmonious convergence of psychedelic guitar work and meditative electronic textures. The group gained acclaim with albums like New Age of Earth and Correlations, which encapsulate their transition from cosmic jams to more structured, yet expansive soundscapes.
How to Sound Like Ashra
Ashra's sonic character is defined by its ethereal and immersive quality, blending clean, melodic guitar lines with the fluidity of sequenced electronic elements. Göttsching's use of the Gibson Les Paul SG Standard helps create a warm, resonant tone that weaves seamlessly into lush, ambient textures. Effects such as the Dynacord DRS 78 Digital Reverberation System contribute to the group's atmospheric depth, enhancing the dreamy, expansive feel of their compositions. The integration of electronic rhythms, such as those produced by the Eko ComputeRhythm, provides a rhythmic foundation that supports the band's explorative and hypnotic soundscapes, inviting listeners into a meditative auditory journey.
