About
Balance is an American pop/rock group that emerged from the vibrant music scene of the early 1980s. Fronted by singer Peppy Castro, the band includes the talented Doug Katsaros on keyboards and the late Bob Kulick on guitar. Following their initial success, the band expanded to include Dennis Feldman on bass and Chuck Burgi on drums. Known for their blend of yacht rock, arena rock, and AOR, Balance captured the essence of the era with charting hits like "Breaking Away" and "Falling in Love." Their self-titled debut album and its follow-up, In for the Count, showcase the band's knack for crafting catchy, melodic rock tunes.
How to Sound Like Balance
Balance's sound is characterized by its slick production and melodic hooks, underpinned by clean yet powerful guitar riffs and lush keyboard arrangements. Bob Kulick's guitar work often featured the crisp and articulate tones of his ESP-LTD Viper-256 Cherry, amplified through the dynamic and punchy Marshall JCM900 4100 head. The band's music is marked by its polished and accessible sound, with Doug Katsaros's keyboards providing a smooth, harmonic foundation that complements Kulick's energetic guitar lines. This blend of clean melodies and rhythmic drive makes Balance a quintessential representation of early '80s rock, appealing to fans of both energetic anthems and contemplative ballads.
