About
Buck-Tick is a pioneering Japanese rock band that has continually evolved since its formation in 1983 in Fujioka, Gunma. The lineup consists of Atsushi Sakurai (vocals), Hisashi Imai (guitar, electronics), Hidehiko Hoshino (guitar), Yutaka Higuchi (bass), and Toll Yagami (drums). Known for their role in shaping the visual kei movement, Buck-Tick's music spans a variety of genres including rock, J-rock, visual kei, J-metal, and Japanese new wave. Their innovative approach combines dark, gothic elements with a unique pop sensibility, resulting in a sound that is both distinctive and influential.
How to Sound Like Buck-Tick
Buck-Tick's sound is characterized by its dark, atmospheric textures and dynamic range, weaving between aggressive guitar riffs and melodic, synth-laden passages. Hisashi Imai's guitar work often incorporates fuzz and modulation effects, utilizing devices such as the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi V6 to create a rich, overdriven tone. The band's music is further colored by complex, layered synth sounds, with Imai frequently employing units like the Boss SY-300 Guitar Synthesizer to blend electronic elements seamlessly into their rock foundation. The result is a sonic landscape that is both haunting and compelling, marked by a balance of raw intensity and polished production.
