About

Cyberaktif was a short-lived yet influential industrial group formed by a trio of seasoned musicians deeply rooted in the genre. The collaboration consisted of Bill Leeb, known for his work with Front Line Assembly, and cEvin Key and the late Dwayne Goettel from Skinny Puppy and Download. Originating from the interconnected industrial music scenes of Canada and the United States, Cyberaktif created a dark, mechanically charged sound that blended elements of industrial rock, industrial metal, and EBM. They were briefly signed to the iconic Wax Trax! label and released one full-length album, Tenebrae Vision, in 1993, featuring collaborations with notable artists like Blixa Bargeld of Einstürzende Neubauten.

How to Sound Like Cyberaktif

Cyberaktif's sonic landscape is characterized by its aggressive, layered textures and relentless rhythmic drive. Their sound is both mechanical and atmospheric, often built around heavily processed synthesizers and relentless drum machines. This aesthetic is achieved through gear like the E-mu SP-1200 and Yamaha SY77, which lend a gritty, analog warmth to their compositions. The use of the Eventide DSP4000 UltraHarmonizer and Yamaha SPX90 further enhances their dense, industrial soundscapes with complex effects processing, creating a sonic assault that is both visceral and entrancing. This combination of gear and technique results in a sound that is both raw and futuristic, making Cyberaktif a unique entity within the industrial genre.
