About

Deadboy & The Elephantmen is a visceral indie rock duo originating from Houma, Louisiana, known for their gritty swamp rock sound. The group was initially a solo project by Dax Riggs (vocals, guitar), a former member of Agents of Oblivion and Acid Bath, but evolved into a duo with the addition of Tessie Brunet (drums, vocals) in 2004. Their music is marked by a haunting blend of raw energy and melodic intensity, drawing on influences from Southern rock to blues-infused indie.

How to Sound Like Deadboy & The Elephantmen

The sound of Deadboy & The Elephantmen is distinctly raw and aggressive, with a dirty, bluesy edge that captures the essence of swamp rock. Dax Riggs’s guitar work often alternates between gritty distortion and melancholic melodies, achieved through gear like the Fender 'Black Panel' Twin Reverb and the Pro Co RAT distortion pedal. The thick, saturated tones produced by Riggs's 1983 Epiphone Sheraton Electric Guitar add a layer of vintage warmth, while Tessie Brunet's dynamic drumming provides a robust backdrop that is both primal and precise. The duo's music thrives on its visceral energy and atmospheric depth, often enhanced by the subtle use of effects like the Danelectro DSR-1 Spring King for reverb, which adds a haunting echo to their sonic landscape.
