About

Ednaswap was a Los Angeles-based alternative rock band formed in 1993, known for their emotive and powerful sound. The group consisted of Anne Preven (vocals), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Scott Cutler (guitar), Paul Bushnell (bass), and Carla Azar (drums). They gained a cult following for their intense performances and unique songwriting, often exploring themes of emotional turmoil and personal reflection. Despite a relatively brief career, Ednaswap left a lasting impact on the alternative rock scene, with hits like "Torn," which later found massive success through Natalie Imbruglia's cover.

How to Sound Like Ednaswap

Ednaswap’s music is characterized by raw, dynamic guitar work and powerful, emotive vocals, creating a sound that is both gritty and melodic. The layered guitar tones often utilize the rich, resonant sound of a Gibson ES-335, blending seamlessly with driving rhythms that underpin their tracks. Rusty Anderson's preference for tube-driven amplifiers, like the Divided by 13 JRT 9/15, contributes to a warm, overdriven sound, complementing Anne Preven's passionate vocal delivery. The tight, punchy drumming provided by Carla Azar, often showcased through her use of the Ludwig Supraphonic Snare, adds a crisp, rhythmic foundation that enhances the band's dynamic range. Together, these elements create a sound that is both intensely personal and universally relatable.
