Formed in 1991, the band initially featured keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason. The ensemble's intricate compositions and virtuoso performances have solidified their status as stalwarts of contemporary jazz, consistently drawing accolades and a dedicated fanbase.
How to Sound Like Fourplay
Fourplay’s music is characterized by its polished, melodic soundscapes and sophisticated harmonic interplay, offering a smooth yet dynamic listening experience. Their sound is marked by clean, expressive guitar tones, often achieved through the use of Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar and Ibanez LR10 Electric Guitar, paired with Bludotone Bludo-Drive amplifiers to deliver a warm, articulate tone. Keyboards, primarily led by Bob James, add layers of rich, ambient textures, while Nathan East’s bass lines, enhanced by the TC Electronic Blacksmith, provide a solid yet fluid foundation. The rhythmic complexity and finesse of Harvey Mason’s drumming further accentuate the group’s dynamic range, creating an inviting and immersive musical journey.
