About
Goatsnake is an American doom metal band hailing from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1996 by Greg Anderson (guitar), alongside former members of The Obsessed, Guy Pinhas (bass) and Greg Rogers (drums). Vocalist Pete Stahl completed the lineup, bringing a powerful and distinctive voice to their heavy, sludgy sound. Goatsnake is celebrated for their contributions to the stoner rock and sludge metal scenes, marked by their raw, hypnotic riffs and thunderous rhythm section.
How to Sound Like Goatsnake
Goatsnake's music is characterized by thick, distorted guitar tones and a heavy, groove-laden rhythm that creates an ominous, yet captivating atmosphere. Their sound is gritty and powerful, often relying on fuzz pedals like the Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Civil War" Big Muff Pi to achieve their signature sludge-laden riffs. The deep, resonant bass lines are typically driven by robust amplifiers such as the Ampeg SVT-CL Classic, providing a solid foundation for their doom-laden soundscapes. Drums in Goatsnake's tracks maintain a steady, pounding cadence, contributing to the band's hypnotic and relentless sonic experience. To truly capture Goatsnake's vibe, one must embrace a heavy, unrefined sound that balances aggression and groove.
