Scream is a seminal American punk band that emerged from the vibrant Washington, D.C. hardcore scene in the early 1980s. Originating in Alexandria, Virginia, the group was initially formed by Pete Stahl (vocals), his brother Franz Stahl (guitar), Skeeter Thompson (bass), and Kent Stax (drums). Known for their intelligent and ferocious style, Scream expertly blended elements of post-hardcore, art rock, and punk to create a sound that was both muscular and sophisticated. Over the years, the band expanded their musical palette, incorporating reggae and hard rock influences, and even featured a young Dave Grohl on drums during a crucial period in their evolution.

Scream’s sound is characterized by its intense, aggressive energy combined with complex, layered guitar work that occasionally dips into melodic realms without losing its hard-hitting edge.
