About
Hibou is the creative endeavor of Peter Michel, a talented songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist hailing from the south of France. While Hibou might have the appearance of a band, it is, in fact, Michel's solo project. His music seamlessly blends elements of dream pop and electropop, characterized by shimmering guitar hooks and rhythms that nod to the new wave era. Michel's work is a meticulous assembly of evocative lyrics, crooning melodies, and driving percussion, resulting in a nostalgic yet fresh soundscape that captivates listeners.
How to Sound Like Hibou
To evoke Hibou's sound, focus on the dreamy, atmospheric quality that defines it. The music often features sparkling guitar tones that are both clean and ethereal, creating a lush sonic landscape. This is achieved through the use of effects like the Electro-Harmonix Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator, which adds depth and dimension to the guitar lines. The inclusion of reverb and modulation effects, such as those found in the TC Helicon Mic Mechanic, further enhances the dreamy vibe. The use of a 1980 Martin EM-18 guitar adds a vintage touch, contributing to the warm, enveloping sound that Hibou is known for. Michel's arrangements often balance propulsive, new wave-inspired rhythms with ambient layers, creating an entrancing and evocative musical experience.
