About

IDLES is a dynamic British rock band known for their intense energy and raw, emotive performances. Originating from Bristol, the group consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (lead guitar), Lee Kiernan (rhythm guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass), and Jon Beavis (drums). Their music blends elements of post-punk, noise rock, and punk, characterized by powerful rhythms, gritty guitar work, and socially conscious lyrics. Since their formation, IDLES have gained a reputation for their confrontational yet emotionally resonant sound, drawing influences from modern alternative rock and the post-hardcore scene.

How to Sound Like IDLES

IDLES’ sound is marked by its aggressive, unfiltered sonic character, combining punchy, distorted guitar riffs with driving basslines and thunderous drumming. Their music often feels like a cathartic release, with layers of noise and feedback that enhance the rawness of their expression. Guitars like the Fender Telecaster and Fender Stratocaster, utilized by Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, contribute to their biting and edgy tone. Effects such as the Death By Audio Fuzz War and Death By Audio Echo Dream 2 enhance their sound with layers of fuzz and delay, creating a chaotic yet controlled sonic landscape. The Vox AC30 amp further amplifies their gritty, full-bodied sound, making their performances both visceral and immersive.
