How to Sound Like Incubus
Incubus’s sound is characterized by its dynamic and textured layers, combining both aggressive and melodic elements. Mike Einziger’s guitar work is central to their sonic identity, often employing a mix of clean, shimmering tones and distorted, powerful riffs. This is achieved through the use of diverse gear like the Fender American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster and effects such as the MXR EVH90 EVH Phase 90 and Eventide Rose. The interplay of rich harmonic textures with Chris Kilmore’s atmospheric keyboard work and turntable effects adds depth, while the rhythm section maintains a tight, groove-oriented foundation. Incubus’s music often transitions between sprawling, ambient sections and energetic, driving passages, making their sound both versatile and distinctive.
