About
Lard is an industrial rock supergroup known for its aggressive blend of industrial and punk music. Formed in 1988, the band features Al Jourgensen (guitar) and Paul Barker (bass) from Ministry, along with legendary Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra (vocals). Drummer Jeff Ward was initially part of the lineup, with Bill Rieflin later taking over the role. Lard's music is marked by its intense energy and politically charged lyrics, as showcased in releases like The Power of Lard EP and The Last Temptation of Reid.
How to Sound Like Lard
Lard's sound is characterized by a raw, aggressive sonic palette that combines the mechanical grind of industrial music with the rebellious spirit of punk. The music often features distorted, heavy guitar riffs and pounding, relentless rhythms, creating a dense, chaotic atmosphere. Al Jourgensen's use of the Schecter Al Jourgensen Signature Triton Satin Black guitar and the Crate Black Voodoo Head Amp delivers a powerful, gritty tone, while Paul Barker's bass lines, enhanced by the Malekko Heavy Industry B:assmaster Octave Fuzz, add a thick, menacing layer to the sound. The use of synthesizers like the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 by Jourgensen injects an eerie, futuristic edge, making Lard's music both confrontational and avant-garde.
