About
Tad is a formidable American rock band that emerged from the vibrant Seattle music scene in 1988. Known for their bone-crushing blend of alternative rock, grunge, post-hardcore, and noise rock, the group was founded by the imposing figure of Tad Doyle (vocals, guitar). The original lineup included Kurt Danielson (bass), Gary Thorstensen (guitar), and Steve Wied (drums). Embracing a heavier, more metallic sound than many of their contemporaries, Tad carved out a niche with their lumbering, powerful riffs and a raw, unrefined edge that set them apart from the more mainstream grunge acts of the era.
How to Sound Like Tad
To emulate Tad's colossal sound, musicians should focus on creating a dense and aggressive sonic landscape. Their music is characterized by thick, distorted guitar tones that bulldoze through the mix, often achieved with the help of gear like the Boss DS-1 Distortion and the Pro Co RAT. The guitars, whether it's a Fender Jazzmaster or a Gibson SG Standard, deliver a gritty and unyielding sound that pairs seamlessly with the thunderous basslines from a Fender Jazz Bass. This is further amplified by the use of robust amplifiers like the 1970s Fender Silverface Twin Reverb, ensuring that Tad's music hits with the force of a sledgehammer, making use of every decibel to push the boundaries of heavy rock.
