How to Sound Like Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

The band's sound is defined by crisp, jangly guitar tones and lush, synth-driven backdrops. Lloyd Cole's use of the Rickenbacker 330 and Gibson ES-330 contributes to the shimmering, melodic quality of their music, often enhanced by the chiming clarity of a Fender Telecaster. Neil Clark’s application of the Ibanez DM2000 effects processor adds depth through tasteful delay and modulation. Meanwhile, Blair Cowan's utilization of the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer and Korg BX-3 Organ weaves a rich, atmospheric backdrop, complementing the rhythm section's tight, polished grooves. Together, these elements craft a sound that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally resonant, capturing the essence of 1980s new wave with a timeless appeal.
