About
Lovemongers is an American rock band formed by the iconic Wilson sisters, Ann Wilson (vocals) and Nancy Wilson (guitar, vocals), known for their work with the legendary band Heart. Originating in the early '90s, the group was a creative outlet for the sisters to explore a more organic sound that harkens back to their rock roots. They were joined by Sue Ennis (keyboards), Frank Cox (guitar), and Ben Smith (drums). Their music primarily falls under the grunge genre, but it also includes elements of classic rock and folk, as demonstrated in their cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore."
How to Sound Like Lovemongers
Lovemongers' sound is characterized by a blend of rich acoustic textures and gritty electric tones, creating a dynamic interplay between the organic and the electrified. Nancy Wilson's use of the Epiphone Masterbilt EF-500RA and Martin HD-35 Nancy Wilson steel-string acoustic guitars provides a warm, resonant foundation, while her electric work on the Gibson Korina Flying V injects a powerful, raw edge. The addition of effects like the Keeley Dark Side Workstation allows for a nuanced blend of modulation and delay, adding depth and atmospheric layers to their sound. Ann Wilson's commanding vocals, often amplified by the Sennheiser SKM 9000, soar above the instrumentation, bringing a timeless, evocative quality to their music.
