About
Morbid was a seminal Swedish metal band that emerged in the late 1980s, known for their influential contributions to the death metal and black metal genres. Hailing from Stockholm, the group originally featured Per "Dead" Ohlin (vocals), who later joined Mayhem and became a legendary figure in the black metal scene. The lineup also included Ulf Cederlund (guitar), who would go on to play in Entombed, along with Jens Näsström (bass) and Lars-Göran Petrov (drums). Morbid's music is a scorching blend of death metal, black metal, and black thrash, characterized by its raw energy and aggressive soundscapes.
How to Sound Like Morbid
Morbid's sonic character is intense and abrasive, driven by ferocious guitar riffs and unrelenting drum patterns that evoke a sense of chaos and darkness. The gritty, distorted guitar tones were often shaped using a Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal, creating a wall of sound that is both aggressive and atmospheric. Ulf Cederlund's guitars, including models like the Gibson SG and Ibanez Destroyer II DT-350, contribute to this raw, visceral energy, while the use of dynamic microphones like the Shure SM58 captures the raw, powerful vocals of Per "Dead" Ohlin. With amplifiers such as the Peavey Bandit 112 solo series delivering the gritty, high-gain tones, Morbid's sound is a potent mix of aggression and dark, melodic undertones that have left a lasting impact on the metal scene.
