About

MxPx is a punk rock band hailing from Bremerton, Washington, known for their energetic blend of punk rock, pop punk, and ska punk. Formed in 1992, the group comprises Mike Herrera (vocals, bass), Tom Wisniewski (guitar), and Yuri Ruley (drums). Originally starting out in local venues too small to even serve them drinks, MxPx quickly became a seminal influence in the pop punk movement, paving the way for bands like New Found Glory and Good Charlotte. Their extensive career is marked by relentless touring and a dedication to their fanbase, solidifying their place in the punk rock pantheon.

How to Sound Like MxPx

MxPx’s sound is characterized by fast, melodic punk riffs combined with a tight, driving rhythm section. Their music maintains a gritty yet melodious edge, often driven by punchy, overdriven guitars. Tom Wisniewski’s use of the Gibson Les Paul Special Double-Cut provides a raw, powerful tone that cuts through the mix. This is complemented by the heavy, rhythmic bass lines of Mike Herrera, often utilizing a Music Man Stingray for its bright, assertive presence. The band’s energetic sound is further enhanced by dynamic drumming, keeping the tempo brisk and the vibe lively. Whether performing in packed venues or intimate clubs, MxPx delivers a sound that remains both fierce and melodic, embodying the true spirit of punk rock.
