About
Natural Snow Buildings is an experimental psych-folk duo from France, featuring Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte. Founded after their meeting at a Paris university in 1997, the duo crafts a rich tapestry of sound that blends elements of avant-garde, post-rock, dark ambient, psychedelic folk, ambient, drone, experimental, and drone metal. Known for their raga-influenced drones, they layer heavily distorted guitars with acoustic instruments, particularly woodwind and percussion, along with chanted vocals. This results in an immersive, hypnotic soundscape that has garnered them a cult following in the psych-folk underground.
How to Sound Like Natural Snow Buildings
Natural Snow Buildings' sound is characterized by its dense, ambient textures and hypnotic drones, often built around layers of distorted and acoustic guitars. Their music embraces a rich, atmospheric quality, where distortion and delay create a vast, otherworldly ambiance. Ameziane and Gularte achieve this through the use of gear like the Boss DD-7 Digital Delay and Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb, which help craft their expansive soundscapes. The incorporation of looping devices such as the Boss RC-20 Loop Station allows them to build intricate layers, contributing to the overwhelming, yet captivating sonic experience that defines their work.
