About

Nothing is an American band known for their immersive blend of shoegaze, alternative rock, and dream pop. Formed in 2010 by Domenic Palermo in Philadelphia, the group has become a staple in the post-shoegaze scene. The lineup includes Domenic Palermo (vocals, guitar), Nick Bassett (guitar, bass), Brandon Setta (guitar, vocals), and Kyle Kimball (drums). Their music is characterized by layers of lush, distorted guitars and introspective themes, weaving together elements of slowcore and indie punk to create a sound that is both ethereal and hard-hitting.

How to Sound Like Nothing

Nothing’s sonic landscape is built on dense, swirling guitar atmospherics that drift between dreamy and aggressive tones. Achieving this involves using gear like the Fender Jazzmaster, known for its rich, versatile sound, often paired with the distinctive crunch of the Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Big Muff Pi for fuzz-laden textures. Their sound is further enhanced by the spacious, shimmering qualities of reverb found in pedals like the Trinity 2 Reverb. The Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier is another key element, providing a clean, chorus-laden tone that complements their expansive, layered arrangements. Together, these elements create a rich tapestry of sound that is both melancholic and cathartic, capturing the essence of Nothing's dynamic style.
