About

Protector is a seminal metal band originating from Wolfsburg, Germany, known for their aggressive and relentless sound that fuses elements of thrash, death, speed, and black metal. Formed in 1986, the band initially consisted of Michael Hasse (vocals, drums), Hansi Müller (guitar), and Michael Schnabel (bass). Over the years, Protector has undergone several lineup changes, with notable members such as Martin Missy (vocals) and Ede Belichmeier (bass) contributing to their legacy. Despite periods of inactivity, the group revived in 2011 and continues to perform, releasing music that remains influential in the metal scene.

How to Sound Like Protector

Protector’s sound is characterized by its raw, aggressive intensity and brutal sonic assault, making use of high-gain distortion and rapid-fire riffing typical of thrash and death metal. Their music often features tight, rhythmic guitar work, delivered with precision and speed, complemented by pummeling, double-kick drum patterns. To capture their ferocious tone, musicians should focus on heavy, down-tuned guitars and crushing, tube-driven amplifiers. The vocal delivery is harsh and guttural, requiring a powerful PA system to project the growls and screams effectively. The use of fast-paced, thrash-inspired drumming and relentless low-end bass lines contributes to the overall ferocity of their sound, creating an unyielding wall of metal that can be both chaotic and meticulously structured.
