About

Rain Parade is a cornerstone of the early 1980s Paisley Underground scene, renowned for their neo-psychedelic sound that draws heavily from the 1960s psychedelic and folk-rock movements. Formed in Los Angeles, the band was initially spearheaded by David Roback (guitar) and Matt Piucci (guitar, vocals), who were later joined by Steven Roback (bass), Will Glenn (keyboards, violin), and Eddie Kalwa (drums). Their music blends elements of rock, power pop, neo-psychedelia, and jangle pop, creating a soundscape characterized by languid tempos and impressionistic lyrics. Albums like Emergency Third Rail Power Trip and Explosions in the Glass Palace showcase their ability to merge mystical psych with streamlined melodies, making Rain Parade a pivotal influence in the resurgence of a more ornate and reflective rock ethos.

How to Sound Like Rain Parade

Rain Parade's sonic character is defined by its dreamy, textured layers and hazy atmospheres, reminiscent of the 1960s psychedelic sound they so vividly channel. Their music often combines clean, jangly guitar tones with the lush, resonant quality of vintage reverb and delay effects. Utilizing instruments like the Fender 1954 Telecaster Electric Guitar and Silvertone 1446, they craft intricate guitar lines that weave through each track, supported by the ethereal presence of the Lexicon PCM 60 Digital Reverb Processor. Their compositions often feature melodic, modal counterpoints, with a soft yet driving rhythm section, resulting in a sound that feels both nostalgic and timeless. This rich tapestry of sound is enhanced by the inclusion of keyboard and violin layers, further amplifying their mystical, almost otherworldly, vibe.
