About
Rainbow is a pioneering rock band formed in 1975 by former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Known for their dynamic blend of rock, hard rock, and heavy metal, the band initially featured Ronnie James Dio as the charismatic lead vocalist. Over the years, Rainbow's lineup has seen numerous changes, with notable members including bassist Jimmy Bain, keyboardist Tony Carey, and drummer Cozy Powell. The group has explored various musical styles, from neoclassical metal to progressive rock, influencing countless artists in the heavy metal genre.
How to Sound Like Rainbow
Rainbow's sound is characterized by its powerful, melodic guitar riffs and soaring vocal lines, often underpinned by an epic, theatrical flair. The band’s early work with Dio featured a rich, harmonically complex sound, enhanced by Blackmore’s use of the Fender Ritchie Blackmore Signature Stratocaster combined with the Marshall Major amplifier for a distinctive, overdriven tone. Blackmore’s innovative use of the Schulte Compact Phaser added a unique texture, creating a lush, swirling sonic landscape. This blend of classical-inspired melodies and hard rock aggression is central to capturing the essence of Rainbow’s impactful and enduring sound.
