About
Last in Line is an American hard rock band with roots deep in the legacy of Dio, formed in 2012. Emerging from the original Dio lineup, the group features Vivian Campbell (guitar), Vinny Appice (drums), and Andrew Freeman (vocals). Originally joined by bassist Jimmy Bain, his role was later filled by Phil Soussan following Bain's passing. Last in Line channels the dramatic and melodically powerful style of heavy metal and arena rock, known for its potent fusion of hard-hitting rhythms and soaring, anthemic vocals.
How to Sound Like Last in Line
The sonic character of Last in Line is defined by a blend of aggressive guitar riffs and melodic hooks, achieving a sound that is both powerful and dynamic. The guitar tones often balance between crunchy distortions and singing sustain, with Vivian Campbell employing a range of gear to craft his sound. His use of Kramer Nightswan guitars and Friedman Naked amplifier heads contributes to the gritty yet clear tone that cuts through the mix. Drummer Vinny Appice's thundering rhythms, complemented by the heavy-duty punch of Istanbul Mehmet 14" Sultan hi-hats, provide a robust backdrop, while Freeman's vocals soar with intensity and melodic precision. Together, these elements create a soundscape that is both raw and polished, capturing the essence of classic and contemporary rock influences.
