About

Reagan Youth is a pioneering punk band originating from New York City, known for their intense blend of hardcore punk, punk, thrash core, and NYHC (New York Hardcore). The group was formed in 1980 by Dave Rubinstein (vocally known as Dave Insurgent) and Paul Bakija (Paul Cripple on guitar) while they were still in high school. The lineup eventually expanded to include various members over time, with a rotating rhythm section contributing to their dynamic sound. Reagan Youth became a staple in the early '80s punk scene, noted for their politically charged lyrics and energetic performances alongside iconic bands like the Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains.

How to Sound Like Reagan Youth

Reagan Youth's sound is characterized by its raw, aggressive energy and fast-paced, gritty guitar riffs that embody the essence of hardcore punk. Distorted guitars are central to their sonic identity, often delivered through high-gain amplifiers to achieve a piercing, abrasive tone. Their music typically features rapid, driving drum patterns and powerful, punchy bass lines that create a relentless, high-octane rhythm section. Vocally, Dave Insurgent's delivery is both urgent and rebellious, often conveying a sense of frustration and defiance. To approximate their sound, musicians might focus on using overdrive and distortion pedals, alongside simple, direct production techniques to maintain the rawness and intensity that defines Reagan Youth's music.
