About

Rock Candy Funk Party is an American musical collective known for its vibrant blend of funk rock, jazz fusion, acid jazz, and jazz-funk. The group was formed out of a series of jam sessions at the Baked Potato jazz club in Los Angeles, eventually coalescing into a lineup featuring Tal Bergman (drums), Ron DeJesus (guitar), Mike Merritt (bass), Renato Neto (keyboards), and Joe Bonamassa (guitar). This ensemble of seasoned musicians brings a dynamic and improvisational spirit to their performances, creating a sound that is as eclectic as it is electrifying.

How to Sound Like Rock Candy Funk Party

The sound of Rock Candy Funk Party is characterized by its lively, groove-centric rhythms and rich, harmonic textures. Their music tends to be both melodic and rhythmic, with each instrument contributing to a complex yet accessible tapestry of sound. The guitar work, often led by the virtuosic Joe Bonamassa, is clean and articulate, frequently enhanced by effects like the Boss DD-3 Digital Delay and the Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere MKII to add depth and dimension. The keyboard layers provided by Renato Neto add a lush, expansive quality, often employing the versatile Yamaha Motif XF6 for its broad array of sounds. The tight, syncopated drumming of Tal Bergman, combined with Mike Merritt's grooving bass lines, creates a rhythmic foundation that is both solid and fluid, allowing the music to ebb and flow with a natural, infectious energy.
