About
Rose Tattoo is an Australian hard rock band that emerged from Sydney in 1976. The group was formed by Peter Wells (guitar), formerly of Buffalo, and features the charismatic Angry Anderson (vocals). The classic lineup also included Mick Cocks (guitar), Ian Rilen (bass), and Dallas "Digger" Royal (drums). Known for their raw and powerful sound, Rose Tattoo combines elements of bluesy rock with melodic heavy metal, drawing inspiration from bands like The Rolling Stones and The Faces. Over the years, despite numerous lineup changes and the passing of several original members, Angry Anderson has remained the driving force behind the band. Rose Tattoo has left a significant mark on the hard rock scene, influencing prominent American bands and earning a place in the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame.
How to Sound Like Rose Tattoo
Rose Tattoo's sound is characterized by a gritty, aggressive energy that captures the essence of pub rock with a hard-hitting blues edge. Their sonic texture is raw and unpolished, with distorted guitar riffs that are often driven by tube amplifiers, delivering a rich and saturated tone. The rhythm section is tight and punchy, with solid, straightforward drumming and bass lines that provide a robust backbone to their tracks. Vocally, Angry Anderson's delivery is gravelly and powerful, often punctuated by a rebellious, anthemic quality. To achieve the Rose Tattoo vibe, musicians can focus on using overdriven tube amps and classic rock guitar techniques, along with maintaining a high-energy performance style that emphasizes attitude and presence.
