About

Saraya is an American rock band that emerged from the vibrant late '80s hard rock scene, blending elements of hard rock, glam metal, glam rock, arena rock, and AOR. Formed in 1987 by vocalist Sandi Saraya and keyboardist Gregg Munier, the group initially went by the name Alsace Lorraine. The lineup was soon completed with Tony Rey (guitar), Gary Taylor (bass), and Chuck Bonfarte (drums). Known for their melodic and polished sound, Saraya drew inspiration from iconic acts such as Heart and Pat Benatar. Despite lineup changes, including the addition of Tony Bruno on guitar and Barry Dunaway on bass, Saraya's music remained characterized by Sandi Saraya's dynamic vocals and their rich AOR style.

How to Sound Like Saraya

Saraya's sound is a dynamic fusion of powerful, melodic guitar riffs and polished, synth-driven arrangements. The guitar work, often executed by Tony Rey, is characterized by its crisp, soaring solos and punchy rhythms, achieved with instruments like the Kramer Nightswan and Gibson Flying V. These guitars, combined with the robust tones of amplifiers like the Marshall JCM800 2203, deliver a thunderous yet melodious sound. Gregg Munier's use of synthesizers such as the Roland D-50 adds a layer of atmospheric depth, complementing the arena-ready anthems with lush, textured backgrounds. This blend of guitar-driven energy and synth-laden ambiance creates Saraya's signature blend of hard rock and melodic sophistication.
