Strung Out is a dynamic punk band originating from Southern California, blending elements of hardcore punk, ska punk, skate punk, melodic hardcore, and punk into their music. Formed in 1989, the group initially consisted of Jason Cruz (vocals), Jake Kiley (guitar), Rob Ramos (guitar), Jim Cherry (bass), and Adam Austin (drums). Shortly after their formation, Austin was replaced by Jordan Burns on drums. Known for their high-energy performances and rapid-fire guitar work, Strung Out has been a staple on the punk circuit for decades, evolving their sound over the years to incorporate more melodic elements while maintaining their punk roots.

Strung Out's sound is characterized by aggressive yet melodic guitar riffs and a rhythm section that drives their music with relentless energy. Their guitar work often features metal-influenced speed and precision, with musicians like Jake Kiley utilizing Jackson USA Select Soloist SL2H and Charvel San Dimas Style 2 guitars, providing a sharp, articulate tone. The use of an EVH 5150 III 100-Watt Tube Head amp head adds a powerful, saturated quality to their sound, perfect for capturing the intensity of their live shows. The rhythm section, anchored by the punchy bass lines of Chris Aiken, who employs a Squier Precision Signature Chris Aiken, complements the guitars with a solid foundation, ensuring a cohesive yet explosive sound that is both polished and raw.
