Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Charvel San Dimas Style 2.

Build quality

  • The neck and body are completely unfinished, with rough patches and wood fibers protruding, particularly in the cutaway area.

    Source
  • The guitar features graphite reinforcements in the neck, adding stability, especially beneficial for the higher tension of a 7-string setup.

    Source
  • Owners describe the neck as being smooth and fast, with a unique shape that's thinner than a Fender Modern C but not as flat as an Ibanez Wizard.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Despite nut sauce application, the string trees and nut grip the strings, suggesting potential replacement with Graph Tech parts.

    Source
  • Some users experience the high E-string being too close to the fretboard, complicating pull-offs.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners consider applying a sealant to preserve the natural aesthetics while protecting the wood from dirt and wear.

    Source
  • The guitar's satin finish is appreciated for comfort during extended play sessions, even in warm conditions.

    Source
  • The compound radius fretboard, transitioning from 12” to 16”, is praised for its versatility, enhancing both chord playing and soloing.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The guitar's 25.5-inch scale length is noted for standard tuning but may cause the 7th string to feel floppy when downtuned.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to Ibanez RGIX7FDLB and LTD MH417, the Charvel offers similar specs and sound, but preferences may vary based on aesthetics and finish feel.

Shred Machine

I've already mentioned that I own the Fender MIM Telecaster and I said I wasn't a 'Tele guy' and I stand by that. The reason I purchased this was because of a band I was involved in. I needed an 80's looking Shred Machine and I found this on eBay. American built and full of attitude! Great Guitar. Heavy as hell but it looked fantastic on stage.
