About
Temples is a British band celebrated for their vibrant blend of indie rock and psychedelic rock. Formed in 2012 in Kettering, England, the group is composed of James Bagshaw (vocals, guitar), Tom Walmsley (bass), Adam Smith (keyboard, guitar), and Rens Ottink (drums). Known for their lush, vintage-inspired sound, Temples has carved a niche for themselves by channeling the spirit of 1960s psychedelia while infusing modern grooves into their music. Their debut album Sun Structures garnered significant acclaim and set the stage for their ongoing evolution as one of the most inventive rock bands of their generation.
How to Sound Like Temples
Temples’ music is characterized by its rich, textural soundscapes that meld the warmth of analog tones with modern psychedelic elements. Their sonic palette often features jangly, shimmering guitars, achieved through the use of instruments like the Gibson Firebird 12-String and Gretsch G6122-12 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman 12-String. These guitars, paired with effects like the Boss RE-20 Space Echo, offer a dreamy, ethereal quality to their music. The layered synth textures, often created with the Korg microKORG XL, contribute to the band’s cosmic vibe, while the rhythmic foundation remains groovy and dynamic, driven by Ottink's adept drumming. Temples' sound is a seamless fusion of retro charm and contemporary psychedelia, inviting musicians to explore a soundscape that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.
