About
The Almighty is a hard rock and glam metal band originating from Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in the late 1980s by former New Model Army guitarist Ricky Warwick (vocals, guitar), the band quickly embraced a sound that melded the raw energy of punk rock with the powerful drive of heavy metal. The original lineup also included Tantrum (lead guitar), Floyd London (bass), and Stump Munroe (drums). Known for their intense live performances and biker metal aesthetic, The Almighty made a significant impact with albums like Soul Destruction and Powertrippin', which showcased their evolution from punk roots to a more metal-infused sound.
How to Sound Like The Almighty
The Almighty's sonic character is a robust blend of aggressive riffs and melodic hooks, driven by high-gain guitar tones that are both gritty and anthemic. Their sound is anchored by Ricky Warwick's use of the Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet BT and the powerful roar of a Marshall JCM800 2203, delivering a vintage tube warmth with a modern edge. The band's music often features the biting clarity of overdrive pedals like the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, enhancing the dynamic interaction between rhythm and lead guitar parts. Drums and bass provide a thunderous backdrop, maintaining a relentless energy that propels their tracks forward. This combination of elements creates a sound that is both timeless and powerful, capturing the essence of hard rock with a distinct glam metal flair.
