About
The Babies are an indie garage rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York, blending elements of garage rock, noise pop, and surf rock to create their distinct sound. The group originated from the friendship between Cassie Ramone (vocals, guitar) of the Vivian Girls and Kevin Morby (vocals, bass) of Woods. Alongside them are Justin Sullivan (drums) and later Brian Schleyer (bass), who joined after Nathanael Stark's departure. The Babies emerged as a side project to capture the unfettered creativity and fun of their early musical endeavors, echoing influences from their main bands while carving out a unique sonic space.
How to Sound Like The Babies
The Babies' sound is characterized by its raw, energetic vibe, weaving together gritty guitar riffs and punchy rhythms that evoke the carefree spirit of early garage rock. Their music often features fuzzy, overdriven tones, which Cassie Ramone achieves with gear like the Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive, adding a warm, crunchy edge to their tracks. Kevin Morby’s use of the Fender 'Silverface' Vibrolux Reverb amplifies this vintage feel, offering a vibrant, shimmering quality to their guitar lines. The band's interplay of melodic hooks and dynamic rhythms creates a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly immediate, perfect for musicians seeking to channel the spontaneous and spirited essence of indie garage rock.
