Kevin Morby's Gear
My rig is super simple. I use Dorothy and a Fender Vibrolux reissue. I use the amp’s tremolo as well as that Boss tremolo, and then I use an Electro-Harmonix LPB-1—just the regular $40 one—and a Boss tuner pedal, and that’s literally it! It sounds great and gets the job done.
I’m a total minimalist! With pedals, it’s the same thing as with Dorothy, where I’ve gone out and bought the nicest versions of whatever pedal you can get and I wind up going back to my old stuff every single time. For example, I bought a bunch of tremolo pedals to try to find something to replace my Boss TR-2, but I just love the Boss.

With his beloved Fender Jaguar named Dorothy hanging next to his Blueridge Dreadnought, Kevin Morby sits above a copy of Lou Reed Live, but his instincts hew closer to the foundational figures of Americana, like Bob Dylan and the Band.
Kevin can be seen here (4:21) playing what looks like a 1967 Fender Coronado II, blonde or 'Wildwood' version. These were hollow body 2 pickup guitars as opposed to the reissued semi-hollow Fender Coronados. http://KEXP.ORG presents Kevin Morby performing live in the KEXP studio. Recorded May 14, 2019.
Kevin Morby's bassist uses a Fender Mustang played with a pick and palm muted.
