About
The Cash Box Kings are an American blues band celebrated for their authentic revival of classic postwar electric blues with a modern twist. Originating from Wisconsin in 2001, the group was founded by Joe Nosek who plays harmonica, guitar, and provides vocals. The band found its dynamic frontman in Oscar Wilson, a Chicago blues singer who joined in 2007, solidifying their lineup. Alongside them are guitarists Joel Paterson and Billy Flynn, and drummer Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith, among others. Their music vividly captures the essence of vintage blues while addressing contemporary themes, making them a standout in genres like blues, blues rock, classic blues, and modern blues.
How to Sound Like The Cash Box Kings
The Cash Box Kings' sound is rooted in gritty, electrifying blues rhythms that draw heavily from the raw and expressive tones of the 1950s and 60s. Their music often combines vintage guitar sounds with the punchy, walking basslines characteristic of the Chicago blues scene. Bassist John W. Lauler adds depth with his Fender Jazz Bass, paired with the warmth and drive of a Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 amp. These elements create a sound that is both traditional and vibrantly alive, driven by pulsating harmonica riffs and energetic drum patterns that channel the lively spirit of a juke joint. For musicians inspired to emulate their style, embracing rich overdrive effects and dynamic, soulful playing is key to capturing the essence of The Cash Box Kings' timeless yet contemporary blues groove.
