About

The Donnas are an American rock band that emerged from Palo Alto, California, in 1993. The group consists of Brett Anderson (vocals), Allison Robertson (guitar), Maya Ford (bass), and Torry Castellano (drums). Known for their energetic blend of glam punk, riot grrrl, candy pop, and power-pop punk, The Donnas crafted a sound that nods to the raw, rebellious spirit of bands like The Ramones and The Runaways. Their music often tackles themes of youth, rebellion, and the rock & roll lifestyle, gaining a dedicated following with albums like Spend the Night and singles such as "Take It Off" and "Who Invited You."

How to Sound Like The Donnas

The Donnas' sound is marked by raucous, high-energy guitar riffs and infectious melodies that are both gritty and melodic. Allison Robertson's guitar work stands out with a raw, distorted edge, often achieved using her Gibson Explorer Pro and Gibson Les Paul Standard, paired with the aggressive punch of the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone. The band's sonic character is aggressive yet polished, driven by tight, punchy rhythms and dynamic drumming. The vocals are delivered with a brash, confident attitude, enhanced by the reliable clarity of a Shure SM58 microphone. Together, these elements create a sound that's both rebellious and catchy, perfect for capturing the essence of a rock & roll party.
