The Gits were an influential American punk band known for their raw energy and powerful blend of grunge, punk, and riot grrrl influences. Originating in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1986, the band consisted of Mia Zapata (vocals), Joe Spleen (guitar), Matt Dresdner (bass), and Steve Moriarty (drums). Their move to Seattle in 1989 placed them in the midst of the burgeoning grunge scene, yet their sound was distinctively their own, characterized by streetwise blues and first-era punk. Despite their promise, the band's trajectory was tragically cut short in 1993 with the untimely death of lead singer Mia Zapata.
