About
Naked Raygun is a seminal punk band from Chicago, Illinois, known for their potent blend of post-hardcore, hardcore punk, noise rock, and skate punk. Formed in 1980 by Marko Pezzati (bass) and Santiago Durango (guitar), the group soon solidified with Jeff Pezzati (vocals) and a rotating lineup of drummers, initially Jim Colao. With anthemic melodies, grinding guitars, and politically charged lyrics, Naked Raygun became a cornerstone of the Midwest punk scene. Their influential sound evolved over the years, yet maintained the raw energy and passion that defined their early work.
How to Sound Like Naked Raygun
Naked Raygun’s sound is characterized by aggressive, slashing guitars and powerful, chant-worthy choruses. Their music is gritty and confrontational, often driven by distorted riffs and percolating rhythms. To approximate their sound, consider using a Fender Telecaster paired with distortion effects such as the Boss DF-2 Super Feedbacker & Distortion. Amplifiers like the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus or Fender Twin Reverb lend a sharp, clean tone that complements the band’s relentless energy. The combination of driving bass lines and dynamic drumming rounds out their robust, rebellious sonic palette.
