About
The RH Factor is a dynamic ensemble led by the visionary American trumpeter Roy Hargrove, renowned for its eclectic fusion of jazz, neo soul, jazz fusion, and funk. Formed as a collaborative project, the group brings together a rotating cast of accomplished musicians, including two saxophonists, three keyboard players, two bassists, two drummers, and two guitarists, such as the legendary Cornell Dupree. The RH Factor weaves elements of acid jazz, jazz rap, and modern funk, frequently featuring luminaries from the soul and R&B scenes like D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Common. Their music is a bold exploration of the intersection between jazz and contemporary urban sounds, creating a limitless sonic landscape.
How to Sound Like The RH Factor
The RH Factor's sound is characterized by its vibrant and fluid grooves, blending rich, soulful melodies with intricate rhythms. This ensemble thrives on the interplay between lush horn sections and versatile keyboards, producing a seamless mix of melodic and rhythmic intricacies. The use of instruments like the Fender Telecaster, favored by Cornell Dupree, contributes to the group's smooth yet punchy guitar textures. Bassist Pino Palladino enhances the depth with his 1957 Fender Precision Bass and Warwick Thumb, delivering a warm, resonant low-end that anchors the ensemble's sound. With layers of funk-infused grooves and neo-soul harmonies, The RH Factor crafts an experience that is both uplifting and immersive.
