About

The Seahorses were a British rock band formed in 1996, emerging from the creative vision of John Squire after his tenure with The Stone Roses. Hailing from England, the band consisted of Chris Helme (vocals, guitar), Stuart Fletcher (bass), and Andy Watts (drums). Their music embraced a blend of rock, alternative rock, and Britpop, with notable influences from the Madchester scene and progressive rock elements. Despite their short-lived career, The Seahorses made a significant impact with their debut album Do It Yourself, which showcased their ability to craft melodic and engaging rock anthems.

How to Sound Like The Seahorses

The Seahorses' sound is characterized by dynamic and melodic guitar work, underpinned by Squire's adept use of effects and meticulous attention to tonal detail. The interplay of rich, overdriven textures and crisp, jangling riffs often relies on the synergy between Squire's arsenal of guitars, such as the Fender Telecaster Custom and the Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. These guitars are often paired with the classic warmth of a Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp, providing a vintage, tube-driven depth that complements their Britpop roots. Effects like the Dunlop JDF2 Fuzz Face inject a raw, fuzzy edge into their sound, creating a distinct balance of clarity and grit that defines The Seahorses' musical landscape.
