About
The Vibrators are a seminal English punk rock band formed in London in 1976. Known for their energetic blend of punk, power pop, and pub rock, they were one of the early bands to emerge from the UK's vibrant punk scene. The original lineup featured Ian "Knox" Carnochan (vocals, guitar), John Ellis (guitar), Pat Collier (bass), and Eddie the Drummer (John Edwards) (drums). The Vibrators quickly made a name for themselves with their raw, infectious sound and catchy hooks, playing alongside legendary acts like The Stranglers and the Sex Pistols. Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, the band's influence and dedication to the punk ethos have remained steadfast.
How to Sound Like The Vibrators
The Vibrators’ sound is characterized by its driving, high-energy punk rhythms and catchy melodic lines. Their music has a gritty, straightforward quality, enhanced by the use of overdriven guitars and punchy bass lines. A classic Fender Precision Bass, often used by bassist Gary Tibbs, provides the robust low-end foundation, while guitars likely echo the rawness of the era with minimal effects, focusing instead on the natural distortion from cranked amps like the Fender Bassman 135. The drums carry a relentless, propulsive force, keeping the tempo brisk and engaging. The Vibrators' sound captures the essence of punk’s rebellious spirit with a touch of melodic sensibility, making their music both accessible and enduringly influential.
