About
Skrape is an American band from Orlando, Florida, embodying the raw energy of alternative metal, industrial metal, rap metal, nu metal, and hard alternative. Formed in the late '90s, the group features Billy Keeton (vocals), Mike Lynchard (guitar), Brian Milner (guitar/keyboard), Pete Sison (bass), and Will Hunt (drums). Before coming together, the members had honed their craft with bands like Genitorturers and Stuck Mojo. Skrape quickly captured the attention of the nu metal scene with their aggressive yet melodic sound, leading to a contract with RCA and the release of their debut album, New Killer America.
How to Sound Like Skrape
Skrape’s sound is characterized by its aggressive yet polished texture, combining the rawness of nu metal with the industrial edge that gives their music a mechanical precision. The guitars strike a balance between crunchy distortion and melodic clarity, often employing down-tuned riffs that create a thick, resonant foundation. Vocals are delivered with a mix of rap-infused verses and soaring choruses, adding a dynamic contrast to the dense instrumental backdrop. Drummer Will Hunt's use of a Pearl Music City Custom Reference Pure Kit and Zildjian cymbals contributes to the tight, rhythmic drive, while the integration of keyboards and electronic elements enhances the band's industrial flavor. In crafting this sonic assault, Skrape manages to maintain a distinct melodic sensibility amidst the chaos, making their music both impactful and memorable.
