About
Vive la fête is a Belgian musical group formed in 1998, known for their infectious blend of alternative dance, electroclash, Belgian new wave, and cold wave. The core of the band consists of Danny Mommens (vocals, guitar) and Els Pynoo (vocals). Initially a duo, they expanded over time to include additional musicians for live performances, allowing them to evolve into a full-fledged band. Their music has been embraced by both the party and fashion scenes, with Karl Lagerfeld notably featuring them in fashion shows worldwide. Their album Nuit Blanche firmly positioned them at the forefront of the electroclash genre, with memorable tracks like "Maquillage" and "Noir Désir".
How to Sound Like Vive la fête
Vive la fête’s sound is characterized by its energetic and danceable rhythms, underpinned by pulsating bass lines and sharp, melodic guitar riffs. The band's sonic palette is both edgy and vibrant, often employing distorted and flanged guitar tones that add a gritty texture to their music. Mommens' use of a Fender Telecaster through a Marshall JCM2000 TSL 100 head provides a powerful, driving force, while effects like the Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion and MXR M152 Micro Flanger contribute to the band’s distinctive, kaleidoscopic sound. The hypnotic bass grooves, often achieved with Dirk Cant's Ernie Ball Music Man StringRay and Ampeg SVT-2 Pro Head, lay a solid foundation, while the dynamic vocal interplay between Mommens and Pynoo injects a playful yet intense energy into their performances.
