Whiskeytown was an influential American alt-country band formed in 1994 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Pioneers of the alternative country movement, the group consisted of Ryan Adams (vocals, guitar, banjo), known for his charismatic yet tumultuous leadership, Caitlin Cary (fiddle, vocals), Phil Wandscher (guitar), Steve Grothmann (bass), and Eric "Skillet" Gilmore (drums). Over their five-year existence, they released critically acclaimed music that fused elements of roots rock, Americana, and country, drawing inspiration from the likes of Gram Parsons and Uncle Tupelo. Despite frequent lineup changes and internal conflicts, Whiskeytown left a lasting impact on the genre with albums like Faithless Street and Stranger's Almanac.
