Barbarossa is a Japanese boutique builder of guitar effects pedals based in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture. The brand is known for small-batch, handmade construction using point-to-point wiring and CNC-machined aluminum enclosures, with some parts given cryogenic treatment. Internal enclosures are partitioned to isolate components and reduce noise, and the company frames its design philosophy around expressive dynamics and the performer's feel reaching the amplifier directly.

The lineup centers on gain pedals. The CHIMAERA overdrive was introduced in 2008 and has anchored the range ever since. The GARGOYLE is a three-knob (Level, Tone, Drive) distortion/overdrive that has become the brand's signature, noted for its saturated, pressurized drive character.
