Toru Kitajima's Gear
Toru Kitajima is seen with his signature Schecter AC-TK-TE-WH/SIG guitar in a photo shared on Twitter. This model is exclusively available in Japan.
Toru Kitajima utilizes the Barbarossa Gargoyle pedal, a high-end Japanese custom shop distortion pedal known for its distinctive drive sound, particularly in his solos. According to a tweet from TK_ling_tosite, this pedal is often paired with other overdrives on his board, except in specific instances like the song "Missing Ling."
TK's overdrive pedal. Used for boosting his clean sound.
Toru Kitajima uses the Schecter PA-LS/TK, as detailed on Schecter’s official site under SCHECTER GUITAR RESEARCH.
Toru Kitajima utilizes the ZOOM MS-100BT primarily for rhythm delay when the digidelay falls short, as evident in tracks like "DISCO FLIGHT." This usage is referenced in a tweet by TK_ling_tosite.
Toru Kitajima, known for his preference for Telecasters, is seen using a SCHECTER TR-ST Stratocaster Electric Guitar in the "Just A Moment" photo on Vk.
T.K. makes heavy use of pedals, but his core setup of a Schecter Telecaster copy run into a blackface Fender Twin Reverb (whether it's a reissue or not is unclear) seems to remain largely unchanged in his various activities. At the Japan Night event in London in July 2015 he used a pair of (apparently identical) Twin Reverbs, though whether this is standard practice in his performances is not apparent since there are not very many photos of him (or Ling tosite sigure) playing live.
TK uses this pedal for "Laser beamer","Copy Light " and "Neighbormind"
Miyoko Nakamura is shown using a modded Boss OD-3 OverDrive pedal on his pedalboard circa 2009, as evidenced by the Imgur album titled "TK's pedalboard circa 2009." The pedal has been modified by Soulpower Instruments.
TK's 12-string acoustic guitar, can be spotted in this video (Haze, TK From Ling Tosite Sigure, during Rock In Japan festival 2013)
He's using this along with his signature telecaster in the MV (although I don't know if it's a '61 or '64 reissued model or ultra-light aged, as the color was pretty bright at some frames, possibly due to post-FX'ing).
Toru Kitajima has used the Barbarossa Uranus as his primary overdrive pedal since 2013, as mentioned in a tweet by TK_ling_tosite.
Toru Kitajima uses three Boss LS-2 Line Selectors, as mentioned in a tweet from his account, TK_ling_tosite.
In a 2009 photo of Toru Kitajima's pedalboard, a Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive is visible, indicating its role as his main drive source.
Toru Kitajima uses the Boss DA-2 Adaptive Distortion pedal as a booster for the Barbarossa Uranus, as indicated in his tweet.
Toru Kitajima appears to have an affinity for the Fender '65 Twin Reverb 40th Anniversary Guitar Amplifier, as indicated by his Twitter post discussing amplifiers he no longer uses.
Recently, P-67 of Peluso is the main. Originally I really liked the sound of Neumann U67, and there were times when I thought it would be better to have it, but isn't it difficult to maintain? The condition of the studio U67 is also different. But I also have a throat condition, so I want to record songs in my studio. So, after trying various U67 replicas, Peluso was the one that matched the voice best. Sometimes I use Neumann U87Ai to record strong mids, but recently I rent U67 or record with Peluso.
The source is from TK's Sainou Recording documentary released in 2020. At around 12:15 he is tweaking Ibanez/Vemuram TSV808 and comparing to his Barbarossa Uranus. It is recognisable due to its build, colour and the dipswitches on the top of the pedal. Also shown in his reduced pedalboard used in unravel -HOME LIVE- on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CANTN_UhaLu/?utm_source=ig_embed
It is not sure if he used it to record, but there is a chance he did, as well as live. It's likely function is probably similar to that of his URANUS (as a lead tone, especially when stacked with his WAXX-modded BOSS DA-2) since the URANUS is also a tube-screamer-type pedal.
If you look closely Tk used a modded maxon 820 by soulpower at circa in 2009
The DAW is Steinberg Cubase Pro, and the audio interface was replaced last year with Apogee Symphony I / O Mk II. I originally loved Apogee's A / D converter, and until then I used the AD-16 connected to the RME's audio interface, but after the Symphony I / O Mk II came out, its dense low frequencies And the resolution was very good with my mix, so I replaced them. For the monitor controller, I used Grace Design m920 with S / PDIF connection before, but when I tried the Symphony I / O Mk II D / A converter when the fuse of m920 was blown, it was low. The sound of the center of gravity was surprisingly pleasant, so I'm just putting it out right now. The speaker was replaced by Focal's Solo6 Be last year.
Toru Kitajima uses the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay as a rhythm delay, as shown in the user-uploaded photo below.
Toru Kitajima uses the TC Electronic ND-1 Nova Delay pedal on the track "O.F.T.," as shown in the photo from Imgur.
in this Instagram post, you can see a Shure SM58 laying in front of him
Use the spatial system as is. At present, there are three: DigiTech DigiDelay, Arion's cheap phaser (Note: SPH-1), and Eventide H9. I have always loved the DigiDelay and Arion phasers, and used the H9 as a solo modulator. By the way, Vemuram Jan Ray and Barbarossa URANUS are used in the distortion system.
TK uses this as a booster for his clean sound nowadays, replacing the MUSE.
In several videos featuring Toru Kitajima, he is seen using the Providence RX-S1 2Loop+A/B Routing Box. He connects the Shigemori Muse OD as a clean boost to the input of the Providence RX-S1, with output B linked to a Korg tuner for precise tuning while muting the guitar. The send/return A loop is utilized for a compressor. Output A of the Providence RX-S1 goes directly into the input of an LS-2, which then routes through additional LS-2 pedals, an SPH-1, and a Digidelay. This setup is captured in the user-uploaded photo on Equipboard.
TK uses the CP-1X pedal on the acoustic guitar. According to Boss JP, the secret to Mr. TK's tone on his acoustic guitar is the Boss CP-1X compressor. Source: Boss Japan (4 DEC 2018 on Twitter)
One of his earlier live boards, on the bottom right you can see a modded version of the Keeley 2-knob compressor. The knobs are white, indicating a mod of some sort.
TK used it in his Acoustique Electrick Session. Very smooth sounding pedal.
