Eastwood Guitars is a manufacturer of vintage-tribute stringed instruments founded in 2001 by Mike Robinson. Built on a passion for rare and discontinued mid-century electric guitars, the company was created to bring the aesthetics and character of 1950s and 1960s designs to players who couldn't easily find or afford the originals. Instruments in the catalog draw inspiration from the idiosyncratic shapes and sounds of Mosrite, Vox, Univox, and Coral designs, as well as other obscure American and Japanese electric guitar makers of the postwar era.
In 2004, Eastwood acquired the rights to the Airline brand name — historically associated with Valco-produced instruments sold through Montgomery Ward department stores — which allowed the company to revive models like the fiberglass-bodied Res-O-Glas series. The renewed interest in Airline-style instruments was partly spurred by Jack White's high-profile use of vintage originals with The White Stripes. Beyond Airline, Eastwood's catalog spans electric guitars, basses, tenor guitars, resonator guitars, lap steels, electric mandolins, and ukuleles. The company uses an in-house crowdfunding platform called Guitstarter to gauge demand and fund production runs of niche and limited-run models.
Eastwood has collaborated with Warren Ellis of The Dirty Three and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to co-develop the Warren Ellis Signature Tenor series, a family of 4-string electric tenor guitars. Other artists associated with the brand include Albert Bouchard of Blue Öyster Cult and Justin Young of The Vaccines, who plays the Eastwood Spectrum 5.
Eastwood has 262 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Solid Body Electric Guitars, Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitars, and Electric Basses. Their gear is featured by 147 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Electronic. Notable users include Bill Nelson, Colin Newman, and Laurie Vincent. Most Eastwood products fall in the mid-tier range — professional-grade without flagship pricing.
