Republic Guitars is an Austin, Texas-based maker specializing in metal- and wood-bodied resonator guitars inspired by the 1920s and '30s designs of National and Dobro. Founded in 2007 by Frank Helsley — a player who first became fixated on the resonator after hearing Johnny Winter's acoustic blues — the company started in Rowlett, outside of Dallas, before relocating to Austin in 2013. Republic's instruments are designed in Texas, manufactured overseas in China, and then inspected and set up by hand at the company's shop before shipping.

The lineup spans both classic single-cone and tricone resonators, with models including the Duolian, Resolian, Delta Rocket, and a range of Tricone variants such as the Classic, Clarksdale Special, and Woody. Helsley patented the Highway 61 in 2010, a small-bodied single-cutaway resonator designed to be travel-friendly while preserving the volume and tone of a full-size instrument. The catalog also extends to parlor guitars, resonator mandolins, and ukuleles.

Republic occupies a niche aimed at blues, slide, and roots-music players who want a metal-bodied resonator at a price point well below boutique American builds. The brand has been associated with players from the Doobie Brothers and The Eagles, and Johnny Winter himself was an early advocate of the instruments.
